For Christmas a few of the kids really wanted their 'own' chicken, a specific kind of chicken too. So Santa, being the smart guy that he is, printed off pictures of each of the chickens that they wanted and gave them $5.00 to buy it. It was finally time to buy the chicks! It has been a long wait, they started asking when they could get their chicks back in the beginning of March!
Chicks make pretty good babysitters too!
We ended up getting 12 chicks in all.
Kyle wanted a white Leghorn- it will lay a white egg.
Christopher wanted a Ameraucana- which will lay a pink, blue or green egg.
Heidi also wanted an Ameraucana
We ended up getting 12 chicks in all.
Tyler also got an Ameraucana- we are hoping for one pink, blue and green egg. They should all be slightly different anyway.
Brandon- he's the one that started it all with wanting a Sliver Laced Wyandotte. We couldn't order one, so he choose a Maran instead. Then when we were going to pick up the chicks I called Cal-Ranch just to see (we didn't get the rest from Cal-Ranch) and they had a silver Laced Wyandotte.....so he has 2!
So we got:
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Maran
White Leghorn
3 Ameraucana's
Buff Orpinton (Darin's pick)
Rhode Island Red
Golden Sex Link
Black Autralorp
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Barred Rock
I wanted a Speckled Sussex, but they couldn't order that one in either :(
We are hoping for NO roosters, but planning on a couple. That's why we got so stinkin many! They are living in our basement right now, but WILL NOT be staying for more than a month.
It is pretty fun though!

Man, life has got to be so stinking fun at your house these days! So will you blog about the day all of your other chickens are 'roasted for dinner.' Or are they already put in the freezer! How is it going to be to eat Betty? Will you softies be able to actually kill and eat them? Any tears? I guess that's why you got the new ones chicks first.
I love it, they're so cute as little chicks! You're going to be having eggs coming out your ears soon. I'm sure your kids are in heaven!
Mara is looking at this post with me and she saw your kitty post too, so now she really wants to come out to your house. They look like fun!!
I thinks it's cool you guys are such animal lovers! Hope theres not too many roosters!!!!
Way fun Tayna! That's so great you were able to get so many different kinds. Our kids would love to have chicks. They love seeing them at our new IFA just around the corner to us now. It will sure be fun to see all the different eggs you get.
What a fun, fun gift!!! Maybe the kids can make a little money selling eggs. :)
