......visit to the ER last night! We feel very fortunate that we haven't had to go before now. Having kids for almost 14 years I think we've done pretty good.
Christopher was at scouts, (he goes to 11 year old scouts with the other ward). They were playing 500 and he was watching the ball and ran into a light pole that is in the middle of the grass at our church, with his shin.
Darin and I were also there for a trek activity. Darin came and told me that Christopher hurt his leg and was in the suburban. So we went and looked at it and it had 3 band aids covering it, we couldn't see much. They said it was a pretty good scrape. So the compassionate Mother that I am- I was like, that's too bad, so sorry, etc. We went over to the ball park to roast marshmallows with the trek kids and left him in the car. He was dying of pain, but we didn't really notice. Bad mother, bad mother, bad mother.....
We got home about 9 and he couldn't really walk into the house, so we had to help him. Then we proceeded to take the band aids off. Poor guy. I had huge guilt rush over me, I felt SOO bad that I hadn't been more compassionate and loving.
After much debate Darin ended up taking him into the ER at 9:30.
before we cleaned up the blood
after being cleaned up a bit.
At the ER, they said it was a very good thing we brought him in. When they were cleaning it, Darin could see the bone, they had Christopher move his foot around and they could see the bone moving. He had to have 2 stitches inside and 6-8 (they don't know for sure) on the outside. It would have healed on it's own, but it would have taken a long time and probably would have gotten infected and would have scarred horribly.
You're wondering what these bunch of quarters have to do with stitches.

Oh man I can't believe that you haven't been to the ER before. That's incredible. I need advice. Both Thomas and Grace now have. I think your reaction is how many of us would have reacted, especially without seeing it and just seeing band aids on it. Poor guy, sounds like a crazy night!
I can't believe that they could see the bone and that Christopher didn't let you guys know that he was in more pain. What a tough kid! I am glad he is doing okay.
That is gross! Poor kid. I laughed pretty hard at the money thing. I can just picture Darin and Christopher there gathering all the money and chuckling! That will make for a good memory.
I can't believe they could see the bone! That is freaky! We've been to the ER at least 7 in our 13 years of parenting. Oh, I remember another, so at least 8! That's pretty amazing it's your first trip, with your active boys!
Christopher was so brave! Hope he heals quickly.
Wow! He must be a tough kid. It's a Harper thing, I guess, to be tough and just tell your kids they'll be fine. I'd probably do that too. I'm glad you decided to take him in though. Your Easter post was cute too. You've sure got some future missionaries there Tayna! Love Heidi's dress.
Ouch! You sound a lot like me, although I am probably less sympathetic. I am not very patient with whining about pain. I hope he has a speedy recovery.
Good job avoiding the ER! We have been twice! Once for each boy.. That is pretty gross.
