Day of Firsts. December 6, 2012

This was a day of firsts for our family.    Our first broken bone, and first driver's license!
Brandon was in PE and they were playing a crazy game of basketball.  He was going after the ball, and another kid kicked it away so he couldn't get it (kicking is illegal in the game).    We are guessing his thumb got kicked in the scuffle.  Brandon didn't think much of it so he kept playing.  Then he grabbed the ball and it was obvious something was wrong with his thumb.   It was instantly swollen and hurting.   His PE teacher which is also one of his coaches, got ice on it right away and they called me.   Poor kid was trying so hard to be brave but I could tell he was really hurting!   I don't think it was just the thumb that hurt, it was his heart also.   He had just started playing basketball and was fighting for a starting position.     It was broken just above the growth plate down in the hand, almost by the wrist,  could have been SOO much worse, but it was still broken.     The great news is that his growth plates are WIDE open!   In the hands and feet are the first places to close.   So he was pretty excited about knowing he was going to continue to grow!
He was really happy that his official driver's license came in the mail the same day!

He only had to have the cast on for 3 1/2 weeks, and then wrap it really good for practice.    He is now fully cleared to play and do anything he wants!

Love your posts. Tyler's snow pants made me laugh. I have a question for Brandon. Who is Alexis? She must be one of his adoring fans!!

Way to go Brando! Glad you're all healed. Fun to see what those growth plates prove in the future.
