Golden Eggs?

Darin does this almost every night. He holds each of them, strokes their stomachs until they quit squawking. They actually act seem to like it. He's trying to make them a little more tame, if it's possible.

Heidi and neighbor girl Haven. This is why they are not so tame! Heidi still loves them and has to check on them several times a day.

Thank heavens kids don't grow as fast as chickens!
We worked all day Saturday on the chicken mansion. Christopher was out there all day with Darin. He pounded at least 300 nails they figured. We decided to insulate the thing, which is such a pain, but I think it will be worth it. The way the wind and snow blow here, we should have happier chickens. I think we would be close to being finished if it weren't for that. We've actually been thinking about marble flooring, and AC, possibly even a toilet or bedeau (however you spell it). Christopher thinks they may even lay golden eggs! Ha Ha! We wish.

This is the nests. It is going to open from the outside so we don't have to go inside to collect the eggs.
This is how far we got. The 3 windows on the left is the chicken coop. The other open roof area will be green house type material. We hope to put some tomatoes in there and have a little greenhouse. There is still a lot to do, but we are getting closer. Who knew a chicken coop would take so long. Darin always does an amazing job whenever he decides to do something.

I can't wait for fresh eggs!

Wow--that looks so good!! Now I know who to call when I decide to have something built. :) And I hope in the long run, the chickens are tamed--especially for Heidi's sake.

What a chicken mansion! Dad will be jealous for sure! The picture of Heidi is hilarious. She's not afraid of much! Too bad for Tyler. Hope it's all better by now. Can't wait to see you soon!!

Man I really thought that was a chicken Mansion. Then you explained about the greenhouse! Such a good idea. I think it still is a chicken mansion! It looks awesome, maybe we can trade, a kitty for some eggs;)

I love all the chicken posts Tayna! All I can say, "Is those lucky chickens better lay you guys a bunch of eggs for the rest of their lives!" I can't believe Darin knows how to build so well. It looks great and I'm glad you're getting to do such a great family activity.
