Freak Storm

On Friday we had a freak storm go through the north end of our farm. It was pretty bad. It hailed for about 15 minutes and dumped a TON of rain. Our poor crops didn't fair very well. It's amazing what can happen in such a short amount of time.
Some of the grain fields lost about 50% of the kernals. It's sad. Darin was so excited to cut it becuase it was looking so thick and good. Now it won't be so fun to cut. This is pivot #2 (not that you care, this is strictly for my records!)
This is pivot #5. The hardest hit of the beets fields. Poor things are shredded.
This is the boys 4-h beets. Pivot #18. This is what a field of beets should look like.
Comparing leaves. Darin is in charge of all the crops up north and he was so happy with the way things were looking. Hopefully the beets will rebound fast. The grain is just lost, thank heavens for insurance so it's not a complete loss! Farming is such a gamble, but it is also such a joy. Darin does a great job. He can handle so much. (Thanks for working so hard for our family, I love you)

Oh man that totally stinks. I can't believe how much it affected everything. It's crazy the wheat won't rebound, I guess it is getting harvest soon though. Hope it goes okay!

What a deal, huh! Thank goodness for the insurance! It's still sad to work so hard and then have that happen!

I swear we drove right by your place on our trip. I wish I would have thought ahead to plan on stopping by to say hi. Farming is a risky business--crazy!! Good thing you have that insurance.
